Calendar & Scheduling
Mathnasium Parents, on this page you can find information on Online Scheduling, Holidays (Center Closed) and Make-up Policy. Mathnasium is not a group class so there is a lot of flexibility in scheduling your sessions around your busy family schedule. You can reschedule your appointment easily at http://www.mathschedule.com or by clicking the image below. Any questions? please call (617) 340-3665.
As we have students from private schools, the center is open during Newton public school Winter and Spring vacation week. The center is closed on:
- 11/26 (Thurs) Thanksgiving
- 12/25 – 1/1 December Recess
- 4/2 (Fri) Good Friday
- 4/4 (Sun) Easter
- 5/31 (Mon) Memorial Day
- 6/28 – July 4th (Sun – Sun) Center Closed. Reopens Monday, July 5th.
MAKE-UP POLICY Our scheduling/make-up policy is very generous. Here’s the executive summary.
1. Please notify us at least 24 hours ahead of time to avoid any make-up fees. You can reschedule an appointment directly online at www.mathschedule.com.
2. If you miss the 24 hours deadline, no problem, we can still schedule a make-up session for a $20 make-up fee and you’ll have to do it by phone. Online scheduling only allows rescheduling of appointment at least 1 full business day away.
3. Exceptions: We accommodate one exception a quarter, for when your child is sick. We encourage you not to bring a sick child to the center. If your child is not well, and you call after the 24 hour deadline, the make-up fee does not apply (once a quarter). We would appreciate your call as soon as possible, though.
Read further for our most Frequently-Asked-Questions (F.A.Q.):
Q. When do I need to call/email to reschedule?
A. To avoid any make-up fees, please call reschedule at least 24 hours ahead of your scheduled time. To schedule online, go directly to http://www.mathschedule.com. If this is the first time, watch the video on the login page.
Q. What if I miss the 24 hour deadline?
A. We can still schedule a make-up, however there is a $20 make-up fee.
Q. My child wakes up not feeling well on the day of. Will I still be charged a make-up fee since I miss the 24-hour deadline?
A. No, up to 1 sick day a quarter. Beyond the first sick day, the $20 make-up fee applies.
Q. Why do you need to charge a make-up fee ($20)? Aren’t there always instructors at the center?
A. Mathnasium program is not a group class. We do not go beyond 3 students per instructor. Student mix is also important, we don’t place a 2nd grader with an 8th grader in the same pod even if the seat’s available. Or siblings, they tend to focus better when they are not in the same pod. All this means is that there’s a lot of planning going into it that cannot be shifted on the day of without affecting teaching quality. Hence the $20 make-up fee, so we can get additional help.
Q. What do we do with empty scheduled slots when your child cannot come?
A. Well, what we don’t do is to send the instructor home. We keep our instructors happy, and being sent home without pay is not fun. So what do we do with empty slots? We leave them empty. The instructors take the opportunity to spend more time, give even more attention to the students who are present.
Q. If we miss a session this week, can we double up a session next week into a 2-hour session?
A. Our observation is that students do optimal work in the first 60 minutes. Depending on your child, he/she may continue to perform well the second hour, or may lose focus. You know your child the best, so the decision’s yours. For most children, we notice that they get a lot more out of 2 separate 1-hour sessions than one 2-hour session.
Q. What are the hours we can reschedule?
A. You can schedule a make-up session anytime during center hours as long as we don’t exceed student-teacher ratio (3 to 1) and the student mix makes sense. Our center hours are below. But not hours are still available. To check availability, go to: www.mathschedule.com
- Mon, Wed: 3 pm to 6 pm
- Tue, Thurs: 3 pm to 7 pm
- Sunday: 2 pm to 5 pm
Thank you for your support. At the end of the day, our goal is to create the optimal teaching environment for your child. Re-scheduling and make-ups are inevitable, however, with your help, we can accommodate your child’s scheduling needs without taking away our focus from the important job of teaching.
